descending on neighborhoods in rialto, and picked up a 29-year-old louie sanchez and a 30-year-old marvin norwood. sanchez's sister taken into custody. it's unknown if police think she drove the two from the stadium that night. she's been released on bail. the new arrests appear to exonerate the parole jailed in may, at the time, los angeles police chief considered ramirez the prime suspect. >> and a significant break. one that will lead to a successful prosecution, i am sure. >> last night, the mayor antonio villaraigosa who stood with the chief in may tried to explain the turn of events. >> we followed hundreds of thousands of leads. and in this case that was very difficult for us. there was general descriptions of the assailant. >> ramirez remains in custody on a parole violation. this afternoon his mother and attorney held a news conference.

the character of the los angeles police department. we're here to announce the arrest of three suspects in the brute yathal beating of brian stow. but just as importantly, i want to tell the world that giovanni ramirez is no longer a suspect in this case. the initial evidence in identification which led to his arrest had been refuted by an investigation that had involved dozens of detectives working seven days per week over thousands of hours. they investigated more than 850 clues and interviewed over 600 people. we've tirelessly pursued the truth whenever it led us, and without prejudice to the outcome. just as i demand we do. yesterday, based on evidence developed by detectives assigned to robbery homicide division, three people were taken into custody. louie sanchez, age 29.

marvin norwood, age 30 and doreen sanchez, age 31. and just several minutes ago, the district attorney filed multiple charges against louie sanchez and marvin norwood, including mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon. they're being held on $500,000 bail. charges against doreen sanchez are still pending. investigation into these individuals is ongoing. and no further details can be released at this time. i ask that you respect the process, and request that no photos of the three individuals be released as this could compromise the hard work of my detectives. i hope to have further details to give you as early as monday. until then, keep in mind i cannot try this case in the media and that our goal is to find justice for brian stow. thank you. >> with that we'd be happy to

answer a few questions. >> and you've been listening to a news conference in los angeles about the beating of brian stow and new suspects who, they announced arrests today. there are three spaekts rested. >> and one of the things made clear is that man arrested initially is now exonerated and they say he was not involved in the beating at that dodgers game. >> the chief said two men and one woman have been arrested in this case. and we're going to have more for you on this later today at 6:00. and we'll move on to other news of the day. california's unemployment rate rose last month. as employers added more jobs. the state edd said nearly 29,000 jobs were added in june. and this jobless rate inched up a tenth of a percent from may. we are live from sablgt sacramento with more. >> the new numbers show just how fickle this economic recovery is on the one hand,

we have strong job growth in the month of june, after a big job loss in may on the other, unemployment is up, after months of falling. >> led by silicon valley high tech industry, lawyers added nearly 29,000 jobs for june. the best one-month gain since february. the jump was a surprise considering how week the national labor market is, only 18,000 jobs were created in the same period. >> they need to do probably at least double what we've been doing so far. just to sort of see a real recovery. >> and more than two million people are still out of work. california lost nearly 1.4 million jobs and only 16% have come back. despite job growth, unemployment remained high in california, and the jobless rate ticked up for the first time since september to 11.8%

last month, higher from may when it was 11.7%. and it's better than a year ago when it was at 12.4%. and an increase in unemployment rate with job growth means more people enter bid restarting their job search or moving into the state. >> and this is is a job expansion underway. not enough to get news a job growth and job recovery. >> high school graduate was one of thogs who dove into the job hunt. and is finding there is no market for people with no experience. >> and he i tried fast food, restaurants, i have tried storage houses. everything. i've applied almost everywhere. yeah. it's difficult. >> and this summer may not get better here or the rest of the country. cisco systems plans to layoff

cannot make fundamental changes. an angry president ordered congressional leaders to the white house for a meeting in the morning. lawmakers have until august 2 to prevent a government default. >> and president obama sign a repeal of don't ask, don't tell today. his signature serves as a formal repeal on gays serving in the military openly. abc 7 news spoke with a former navy lieutenant who won a nearly three-year battle to stay in the navy veefshs after revealing she was gay in 1993. today, she called it the last hurdle in a series of hurd yelz over the last 17 years. >> and i saw and i knew it was a done deal. i felt relief and excitement that this is finally here. >> and the repeal will go into affect in 16 days. doning said her next effort will be to ask the president to issue an executive order mandating nondiscrimination.
